I was first introduced to Hug-a-bub carriers when my first child, Adam, was born. It was a wrap carrier. It changed my life. I was suddenly able to do things without having to choose between a screaming baby and my sanity. I used it until Adam turned 1 year old.
For the birth of my second child, my daughter Lia, I was given the Hug-a-bub ring sling. I never looked back. Lia was a January, summer baby. Living in Byron Bay it can get very hot and very humid. The ring sling was perfect. It is light weight, easy to put on and most importantly both Lia and I didn’t get uncomfortably hot using it. I took her everywhere in it. She slept in it, nursed in it & was comforted in it. It is versatile and offers so many different carrying options for all the stages of growth. After she was born I carried her in the up-right position, close to my heart. When she was a few months old I started carrying her in the side position, so she was able to look out and still have her body properly supported and without putting any strain on my back. For longer distances I carried her on my back. I used it until she turned 4 years old. It was just so much easier to carry her and pick her up when I needed to than to hold her without that support. Until today (she is now 6 years old) if she is sick, upset or sad, she goes and gets the ring sling to wrap around herself, for her it is a place of comfort and safety.
When I meet young mothers through my work as a Doula I highly recommend them using Hug-a-bub carriers and in particular the ring sling. I can see the change in them after they start using it. How much more relaxed they are with their babies and how much more calm their babies are. A calm mother means a calm baby and a calm baby means a calm mother.
Now expecting the birth of my third child I have no doubt I will be using both the Hug-a-bub wrap carrier and ring sling again. Actually, I am really looking forward to it.
